I am a podcast geek, an introvert, a die-hard Liverpool soccer fan, and a Peacemaker on the Enneagram. I am married to my wife, Sarah, and we have two kids, Anna (10) and Sam (6).

I graduated from Truman State University in 2001 with a degree in Computer Science. I started my career as a Java developer at Boeing in St. Louis, and moved to Kansas City in 2006. Since then, I have been a software developer, manager and architect in the employee benefits industry.

Right after graduating college, I hired a college friend to be my financial adviser. He did a lot of great things to get me started on the right track with creating habits of saving and investing. A couple of years later, my wife gave me a gift that would change my life... an iPod. I immediately began listening to financial podcasts and learning about disciplined investing strategies and being mindful of fees. Eventually I decided to take control of our finances and go the DIY route.

Over the following years of our 20's and 30's, I continued to learn everything I could relating to our financial well-being through books, podcasts and online resources. I facilitated several sessions of Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University at our local church, and often engaged with close friends and family about their individual situations.

Why did I decide to start Java Wealth Planning? I have been blessed with a fantastic career in tech, and have reached a point in my financial journey and experience where I would like to pay it forward. I am a firm believer in living a life that aligns with your core values, and creating a company that is focused on financial literacy, empowerment and service is what that looks like for me.
