Why the focus on tech professionals?

It's what I've lived and breathed for over 15 years, working side by side with software developers, analysts, business partners and vice presidents. I have first hand experience with issues that are common within the industry. In addition, I've brought the agile software development methodology into my financial planning process, which gives prospective clients a familiar framework. We also heavily leverage technology to streamline everything from meetings to investments to budgeting.

But you don't have to actually be in IT to relate. If you are tech savvy and my approach to financial planning resonates with you, then we may be a perfect fit.

Do you have asset minimums?

No. I accept clients regardless of their current asset level, as there are several major financial decisions to be made prior to accumulating significant wealth

Why a flat annual fee?

  • It's about the ongoing planning. I was very intentional in choosing the name Java Wealth Planning, rather than Wealth Management. While wise investment management is hugely important, there is much more to navigate and having full access to unbiased advice and assistance is incredibly valuable.
  • I hate hidden costs, and I wanted to create a system that is 100% transparent and free of conflicts. No commissions, no kickbacks, no motivation to move your money to where I then take a percentage.
  • Expenses have a major negative impact on your investments. It would be hypocritical of me to be all about low cost investing while taking a cut from your account.

Do I have to move my investments?

No. You should never be required to do anything that makes you uncomfortable. That includes giving up control of your investments. So if you would like to keep your money at your current custodian (Vanguard, Fidelity, Schwab, Betterment, etc.), you can. Together we can take a holistic approach of all of your accounts to design a portfolio that you can then implement.

But can I have you manage my investments?

Yes. If you so choose, we can set up accounts at either Vanguard or TD Ameritrade Institutional where we can create a portfolio of leading low cost mutual funds and ETFs tailored to your specific needs and level of risk tolerance. Ongoing management of the account (rebalancing, tax loss harvesting, adjusting asset allocations based on changing needs, etc) is an included service.

*for Vanguard accounts, we will execute a "Limited Power of Attorney", which allows me to view your accounts, submit transactions, and transfer money to your bank account. There is a long list of account-related activities that I won’t be allowed to do, such as change your address, transfer money between accounts with different owners, or transfer money to a new bank account.

I'm interested, what is the next step?

Schedule a free 60 minute introductory meeting. We will chat about your specific situation and goals and determine if there is anything I can do to help. This can be via a call or web meeting, but if you are in the Kansas City area I would love to meet face-to-face.

I'm not interested, so what is next step?

While I feel like we all could use some level of guidance, I don't pretend to think I'm the best fit to serve everyone. If you still would like professional financial help, I would highly recommend searching XY Planning Network for a list of qualified fee-only professionals. The key is to find someone who is held to the Fiduciary standard, which is a requirement for the entire network of advisors.
